On July 11, 2018, Hwi was introduced to be one of the two newest members of Newkidd through the sub-unit Newkidd02. They released the preview single album "Boy Boy Boy" on July 25. On April 18, 2019, Newkidd finally released news of their official debut along with individual teasers.
Hwi then officially made his debut with the group on April 25.
