On January 7, 2010, he debuted as a member of ZE:A with their first single album "Nativity". On February 7, 2013, he made his debut as a member of ZE:A's first sub-unit ZE:A FIVE with their first Japanese single album "The Classic". On January 6, 2017, his contract with Star Empire Entertainment expired.
On March 22, it was announced that he was in the process of signing with Plum Entertainment. Despite his change of agency, he remained a member of ZE:A as they went on an indefinite hiatus shortly after. On October 13, 2025, SM Entertainment revealed that one of their subsidiary labels is currently working with Im Siwan for his first solo album, expecting to be released later in the year.
It was later revealed that Si Wan will be releasing his album in December under newly established SM Entertainment label, SMArt. On November 3, The Black Label announced that they had signed a contract with Yim Si Wan for his acting activities. On November 14, SMArt announced that Yim Si Wan will be debuting with his first mini album, The Reason, on December 5.
