In 2015, he was cast into SM Entertainment, through the SM Global Audition in Shenyang. On August 25, 2016, he officially debuted as a member of the 3rd unit NCT DREAM, with the single "Chewing Gum". On March 14, 2018, NCT released their first full album as part of a large-scale project uniting all of its subgroups: NCT 2018 Empathy.

On October 12, 2020, he made his official debut under the sub-unit NCT U, as a part of the NCT's 2020 project NCT Resonance Pt. 1, with the song "From Home".
