On October 16, 2014, TS Entertainment revealed members Na Hyun, New Sun and Eui Jin. On October 31, 2014, TS Entertainment teased a new fourth member and announced a competition where fans could choose her stage name. On November 19, her stage name was officially revealed to be D.
ana. On December 16, 2014, the rest of the members were revealed. On December 22, 2014, it was announced that SONAMOO would make their debut with their first mini album Deja Vu on December 29.
On July 20, 2015, SONAMOO made their comeback with their second mini album Cushion. On June 10, 2016, TS Entertainment posted a teaser on SONAMOO's social media accounts, hinting at a comeback from the group on June 29. It was later revealed to be their third mini album I Like U Too Much.
On December 21, 2016, TS Entertainment teased SONAMOO's comeback for sometime in January of 2017. On January 8, 2017, SONAMOO made their comeback with their first single album "I Think I Love U". On July 26, 2017, TS Entertainment posted a teaser for a "Happy Box Project" on SONAMOO's social media accounts, hinting at a new release from the group.
It was later revealed to be a three-part comeback series. Subsequently, "Happy Box Part. 1" was released on August 14, 2017.
On October 17, 2017, TS Entertainment announced the release of "Happy Box Part. 2", set for release on November 6. Happy Box Part.
3 was never released. On September 22, 2019, it was revealed that members Su Min and Na Hyun had filed a lawsuit against TS back in August 2019 with their agency later stating that would take legal action against the two members and the group would continue on as five. On September 26, 2019, the group's remaining members excluding High.
D released the OST "We Are Legendary" for the mobile game Legendary: Game of Heroes. On September 15, 2020, the law firm representing the Su Min and Na Hyun revealed the court had ruled in favor of the two members and that their exclusive contracts have been terminated. TS filed an appeal against the ruling, with the appellate trial not yet set.
On January 2021, their label, TS Entertainment was shut down which left the group status unknown. On September 9, 2021, Eui Jin signed a contract with Mellow Entertainment, confirming her departure from the group. Two days later, Min Jae and New Sun also confirmed their departures from the group via Instagram.
On September 13, D. ana also confirmed her departure via Instagram. On December 30, 2021, High.
D officially announced that she had departed from TS Entertainment and the group via Instagram and Twitter. On September 4, 2022, Eui Jin confirmed via an interview that SONAMOO disbanded in 2021, after the release of their final single Promise You.
