On November 17, 2022, DR Music announced Alena Smith as one of the four candidates that passed the 2022 Cygnus Project global auditions. On December 13, 2022, DR Music announced Alena Smith as the first candidate of the 2022 Cygnus Project Global Audition to pass the final round. On December 24, 2022, she appeared alongside the other BLACKSWAN members in the behind the scene video of a Christmas pictorial, confirming her addition to the group.

It was also revealed that she would be promoting using the stage name NVee. On February 14, 2024, when NVee appeared as a guest, it was announced that she would also become a co-host on radio show Wonder Hours with Hyerim, alongside Hyerim as the host. She will start on February 21.
