He made his debut as a member of MONSTA X with the release of their first mini album Trespass on May 15, 2015. On January 20, 2019, prior to Take. 2 We Are Here promotions, Starship Entertainment announced that Jooheon had decided to change his stage name to Joohoney for English activities.

On April 28, 2023, Starship Entertainment announced that Joohoney will make his solo debut in May. On May 2, it was confirmed that Joohoney would release his first mini album Lights on May 22. On December 18, 2025, it was announced that Joohoney would release his second mini album, Insanity, on January 5, 2026.
