About
Bae studied acting at the Korea National University of Arts but had actually dreamed of becoming a singer when he was younger. He was able to combine both through his career in musical theater and as a guest vocalist for the gugak-rock fusion band AUX. In 2013, while still serving his mandatory military service in the navy, he auditioned for The Voice of Korea and made it to the semi-finals.
He also participated in Hidden Singer (Kim Jinho / SG Wannabe special). After being discharged, he made his debut in musical theater, playing one of the male leads in the third run of Pungwolju, a contemporary take on the lives of the ancient Hwarang warriors. He also went into theater and was cast in the 2017 run of Our Bad Magnet, originally by Douglas Maxwell.
His last musical theater role before auditioning for Phantom Singer was in the Korean adaptation of Laurence Mark Wythe and Timothy Knapman's Midnight. In 2017 he was one of many musical actors who auditioned for the second season of Phantom Singer. He first met his future Forestella members in the trio stage.
During the "duo vs duo" stage, his duo was up against Cho Min Gyu and Ko Woo Rim and lost. As one of the top 3 winning duos, Cho and Ko had earned the chance to make their first choice pick to form the trio and chose him due to his musical theater background. The newly-formed trio were ranked third at the end of the "trio vs trio" stage and thus allowed to keep their line-up for the upcoming quartet stage.
Forestella was officially formed prior to the final stage. The quartet performed four songs in the final stage and won the competition. The group officially debuted on March 14, 2018 with their first studio album, Evolution.
