Sangwon was the second trainee to be revealed in the lineup of Trainee A. He has been uploading numerous vlogs and dance covers onto the team's official social media platforms. However, the group's debut was canceled due to various circumstances.

Following his departure from BigHit Music, he work part-time at a cafe as he contemplated giving up his dream of debuting. On June 12, 2025, he was introduced as a contestant of Mnet's survival show Boys II Planet, representing GRID Entertainment. Label mate Leo revealed that he contacted Sangwon to encourage him to participate with him on the show and debut together.
