In January 2016, Yoojung appeared as a contestant on the survival show Produce 101 where she represented Fantagio Music. She ranked 3rd place in the finale, thus becoming a member of I. O.
I. The group officially debuted on May 4, 2016 with their first mini album Chrysalis. On January 29, 2017, the group disbanded following the release of their third and final digital single "Downpour".
On May 1, 2017, Fantagio Music announced that Yoojung, alongside fellow I. O. I member Doyeon, would be debuting in a new girl group together.
On June 3, Yoojung was introduced as the first member of Weki Meki. The group made their debut on August 8 with their first mini album Weme. On September 13, she became a contestant on the vocal reality survival show V-1.
She was eliminated in the first round after losing to her fellow member Suyeon. On August 23, it was announced that Yoojung would make her solo debut sometime in September. On August 26, Fantagio announced that she will release her first single album, "Sunflower", on September 14.
On August 16, 2024, Fantagio announced that Weki Meki had effectively disbanded on August 8 after five members left the agency. However, Yoojung was still in discussions of renewing her contract with the agency. On November 18, Fantagio announced that Yoojung had renewed her exclusive contract with the agency.
