On September 26, 2017, Gate9 debuted as a nine-member girl group with the mini album Gate 1 : Paperwhite. The lineup consisted of Haeyeon, Taera, Yeori, Haru, Gaga, Kady, Juju, Yoon and Vivian. By September 2018, news articles indirectly confirmed the departure of Vivian and Yoon, as their profile photos were noticeably absent from the newly published articles featuring the group.
On January 31, 2019, NOS Entertainment opened a MAKESTAR project titled "GeeGu Comeback Support Project", officially confirmed the group's rebrand to GeeGu and Kady's departure from the group. On April 29, 2019, after one and a half years of inactivity, the group returned with their second mini album Moonlight. On February 12, 2021, after almost a year of inactivity, GF Entertainment announced the disbandment of GeeGu on their fancafe as the members' contracts with the agency had expired.
====Aftermath:==== Following the disbandment of GeeGu, the members went their separate ways: - Kady, now under the stage name Dokyung, re-debuted as a member of CLEO's new lineup on September 2, 2024 with their digital single "You're Mine". - Yoon, under her birth name Hayoon, was revealed as a member of Lively (now Ndear) on May 22, 2022. However, she presumably left on June 27, 2022, after she was unfollowed by the group on Instagram.
She presumably has since left the industry. - The remaining members appear to have left the entertainment industry and have since focused on their personal lives.
