On April 10, 2023, Mnet confirmed that they would be airing a spinoff version of Queendom , titled Queendom Puzzle, where already-debuted idols would compete to form a project group. The teaser trailer released the same day contained a cypher which indicated that there would be 28 competitors and that the final group would have seven members. On June 13, 2023, Queendom Puzzle began airing.
During Episode 7 which aired on July 25, it was revealed that the upcoming girl group's chosen name will be EL7Z U+P. The seven members to become members of EL7Z U+P will be announced during the airing of the finale episode on August 15. In a preview released on August 14, it was revealed that the group changed its name to EL7Z UP.
The final lineup was revealed on the last episode of the show broadcasted on August 15. The SNS accounts were opened later that day. On August 16, Mnet announced that the group will make its debut in September.
On August 31, Star News reported that EL7Z UP will debut on September 14. In response, it was confirmed that the group plans to debut in mid-September. They added that the group does not have a fixed activity period but they plan to release three albums.
On September 1, a teaser was released for their first mini album, 7+Up, set to be released on September 14. On February 26, 2024, it was reported that EL7Z UP will be making their first-ever comeback in May. However, on April 23, it was announced through the group's Twitter account that due to internal circumstances, their appearance at KCON Japan 2024 and revealing their new song would be canceled and that their comeback would be delayed.
The comeback has since never materialized in any form, speculating it had been canceled entirely. Soon after, the group's SNS accounts became inactive, hinting at EL7Z UP's silence disbandment.
