In July 2012, D-Business Entertainment began teasing a new group with song snippets and simultaneous member reveals. On July 2, the first member, UJin, was revealed. Two days later, the company announced plans for the group's Japanese advancement, including a special fan signing event ahead of their Korean debut.
On July 10, the second member, Ram, was revealed. Finally, on July 29, a full group teaser was released, revealing the last member, Zin. On August 1, D-Unit released their debut album Welcome To Business.
On November 7, they released their first digital single "Luv Me". After completing promotions for their first single, the company announced plans to add one or two new members to the group. However, in a follow-up statement, they retracted this idea, stating that the group's lineup would fluctuate, with members being added or removed at different times.
In a third statement, the company confirmed that the original lineup would remain unchanged, as the group viewed "Luv Me" as a continuation of their debut. On January 3, 2013, they released their second digital single "Sleeping In Part 2", a remix of the song "Sleeping In" from their debut album. In the comeback announcement, they confirmed plans for a new album the following month.
On January 29, 2013, they released a teaser featuring four members. It was later revealed that the fourth member was a guest member, JNey, from the group GP Basic. On February 10, a teaser was published, announcing that Zico had produced the title track for D-UNIT's next album.
The following day, the track "Stay Alive", featuring Vasco, was released. Around the same time, it was revealed that their upcoming album, originally containing 13 tracks, would be split into two parts due to having "too many good songs". On the same day, the agency announced that the second part of the album would be released soon.
In July, UJin was noticeably absent from promotional posters for multiple events where D-UNIT was scheduled to perform, leading to speculation about her departure. It was later confirmed that she had left the group sometime in May. On August 2, 2013, D-UNIT released their fifth digital single, "1st Anniversary Mix", a remix of the track "Before Weekend" from their debut album.
On September 13, 2013, Zin made her solo debut with the track "I Donβt Want You To Enlist". On November 28, it was confirmed that D-UNIT would make a comeback as a duo with a special release titled "Kimpira Project Part 2 - It's You". Alongside the track, an MV featuring Soomi from F-ve Dolls was also planned for release.
On December 6, 2013, the track "It's You" was officially released as a digital single, marking their sixth and final release. However, the MV was never published for unknown reasons. The continuation of the project was also left undisclosed, though it was expected that the second part of their second album would serve as that continuation.
For the remainder of 2014, Ram and Zin gradually stopped appearing on the group's SNS, and their public appearances at various concerts also ceased. It is believed that D-UNIT disbanded in late 2014, following the deletion of all their SNS accounts. - Ram, now known as Rami Nu, joined the indie band Five Run Strike.
- After the band's dissolution, she became active as a producer and writer, occasionally featuring on a few songs. - Zin changed her stage name to Hondam in 2020 and has since released solo works. - UJin re-debuted as a member of ShaFLA on October 18, 2018 with their first digital single "S#aFLA NO.
1". - JNey returned to GP Basic. After the group's disbandment she pursued acting and appeared on Unpretty Rapstar 3 and The Unit.
