Formed by the agency Doremi Media, the group consisted of three members: Kim Hana, Park Yeeun and Chae Eunjung. They debuted on March 3, 1999 with their self-titled full-length album Cleo, and its title track "Good Time", an innocent, youthful and childlike song. Sometime in early 2000, Park Yeeun left the group, which she later explained in 2013 was because she neither liked the group's concept nor was interested in being a celebrity.
After her departure, Han Hyunjung was recruited. On March 20, they released their second full-length album, The Cleo #2, with more mature and sexy concept. The drastic change happened after their debut concept had a lot of criticism and judgement from the public.
Later on, CLEO departed from Gaonix after the agency went bankrupt, signed with EMI (Korea) and introduced a new member: Jung Yebin. Following the group's initial disbandment, the members went their separate ways: - After leaving CLEO in 2000, Park Yeeun left the entertainment industry and started a shopping mall business. She also worked as a VJ in the US.
On January 22, 2013, she made her solo debut with the digital single "그놈의 사랑". The same year, she became a part the indie duo [https://kindie. fandom.
com/wiki/The_Second_Fact? The Second Fact]. - After CLEO's disbandment, Han Hyunjung left the entertainment industry.
However, she later returned and debuted as the MC of ETN's Entertainment News EN. U in 2006. This was short-lived as she later definitely left the entertainment industry after a fraudulent marriage controversy in 2011.
She has also worked as a medical tourism coordinator, party planner, actress, YouTuber and pilates instructor, etc. - In 2012, Kim Hana released her first solo song "I Feel So Weird", featured in the OST of Big. She later got married in 2014 and settled down as a housewife.
- Jung Yebin, under her real name, Gong Seoyoung, went on to work as a TV sports presenter for KBS N Sports from 2010 to 2012 and XTM Sports from 2012 to 2013. She later became a broadcaster under StarIt Entertainment in 2018. On November 16, 2011, five years after CLEO's disbandment, Kim Hana gathered Park Yeeun and Chae Eunjung for their reunion on Comeback Show Top 10, in hope of relaunching the group.
However, plans fell through as the show was cancelled shortly after. On June 21, 2016, CLEO reunited once again for ', this time with members Kim Hana, Chae Eunjung and Jung Yebin. When asked if they will comeback again as CLEO, Kim Hana said no.
On October 12, 2023, Chae Eunjung announced the reformation of CLEO under StarMade Entertainment with two new members, Dini and Dokyung. On August 22, 2024, it was announced that CLEO will make their first comeback with their new lineup with the digital single "You're Mine" on September 2. On July 29, 2025, it was revealed that former Hashtag member Dajeong had joined the group following Dini's departure.
Additionally, it was announced that the group had signed with Zes Entertainment.
