On February 9, 2015, DSP Media announced a logo contest for their new girl group, APRIL. The group was reported to consist of DSP trainees, the DSP Girls, who had appeared on the 2014 reality show KARA Project. On June 30, APRIL opened their official fan cafe, and by July 16, their social media accounts were active, with their contest-winning logo revealed.
On July 19, the members were unveiled daily through teasers in the following order: Somin (a former PURETTY member and KARA Project contestant), Jinsol, Naeun, Chaewon (also a KARA Project contestant), Yena, and Hyunjoo. On July 27, after a full-group teaser, all members except Naeun, who had not yet joined during the MayโJune recordings, appeared in the Pikicast series "There's Something Special About April", and on July 31, they appeared at the StarCraft II global e-sports tournament "HOT6 GSL Season 3", which aired on August 5 and 7. thumb|right|APRIL mascot Sawori.
On August 11, APRIL launched the series "ON AIR PRIL", showcasing the groupโs activities. On August 14, a teaser for their mascot was released, and two days later, fans were invited to submit name suggestions. The mascot was later named Sawori and would go on to appear in APRILโs reality shows, vlogs, cover videos, narration segments, and on stage.
On August 20, APRIL held a pre-debut live talk show on AfreecaTV, hosted by BJ KKaru (Kim Pil-gi). The event drew media and fan attention, topping Naver real-time searches, and the live broadcast reached around 80,000 viewers. Their debut track also entered the Melon top 30. On November 9, leader Somin announced her departure in a handwritten letter on APRIL's fan cafe, thanking the members and fans and expressing her desire to grow as an individual.

A fan cafe contest in October 2015 had initially shortlisted six names chosen by the members: ์๋ฆฌ์์ค (Aries), ์์ด๋ธ๋ฆฌ (Avely), ํ๋ก๋ผ (Flora), ๋๋ด ("Always Spring"), ์๋ฆฌ์ (Aria), and ์ํ๋ฆฌ (Epre). On January 10, 2016, Fineapple (ํ์ธ์ํ) was added as a surprise final candidate. On February 18, APRIL won the Rookie Award at the 22nd Korean Entertainment Arts Awards.
On March 6, 2016, they held their first overseas fan meeting, APRIL Japan Fan Meeting 2016 "The First Fairy Tale", with KARA's Hur Young Ji as MC. The group's Japanese fandom, Fineapple Japan, was also officially launched. Promotional photo for [[Spring (APRIL)|Spring.
