Following Kim So-hee's successful participation in K-pop Star 6: The Last Chance, where she placed 2nd overall as part of the KWIN unit, it was announced that she would make a solo release, followed by a girl group debut later. The solo debut was expected in May, and the group debut was planned for the end of the first half of the year. On May 3, 2017 it was announced that Sohee's girl group, ELRIS, following individual teasers of each of the five members, Bella, Yukyung, Karin, Hyeseong, yet to be fully revealed, and Sohee, was set to debut.
On May 9, it was announced that Sohee would make her solo release on May 18, and her group was set to debut in June of the same year. This was followed by a full introduction of the members on the 11th, and by the following day, it was confirmed the group's debut would happen on June 1. Later, in the 16, it was announced Sohee's solo release, set to the 19, with the digital single "Spotlight".

Their debut was followed by a showcase on the same day, along with the announcement of the group's concept, which was inspired by the classic literature and cinematography work Alice in Wonderland, as well as individual concepts for the group, such as ELRIS's acronym meaning and each member's element representation. thumb|right|Promotional photo for Color Crush. Three months later, on September 4, new teasers were released ahead of a newly announced ELRIS comeback.
On the 13th, they released their second mini album Color Crush, followed by an official showcase on the same day. In October 2017, ELRIS members Bella, Hyeseong, Karin, and Yukyung auditioned for the reality show MIXNINE. Only two members, Bella and Hyeseong, passed the auditions and went on to compete in the show.
Hyeseong was eliminated in 43rd place, while Bella advanced to the final rounds but ultimately ranked 18th, failing to make the final top 9. thumb|left|Promotional photo for Summer Dream. In early June 2018, it was announced that ELRIS would soon make their comeback later that month, following their participation in summer festivals prior to the release.
On June 28, they released their third mini album Summer Dream. On September 20, 2018, a new teaser for Sohee's solo debut was posted on ELRIS's SNS. Despite having previously released the track "Spotlight" the prior year, which was later considered a pre-debut single, a new official solo release was announced.
She eventually debuted as a soloist with the digital single "Hurry Up" on October 18. Following the conclusion of promotions for this comeback, the group entered a period of hiatus. Notable group activities during this time were limited to smaller endorsements and one overseas concert in Mongolia.
On November 12, 2019, they released their first digital single, "Miss U", as a special gift for fans after the long hiatus. thumb|right|Promotional photo for Jackpot. On February 11, 2020, a new teaser was posted on ELRIS's social media, and a comeback was confirmed on their Daum Café, this time as a seven-member group featuring yet-unrevealed faces.
The following day, the new members EJ and Chaejeong were announced for their comeback with Jackpot on February 26. Following the conclusion of the comeback promotions, the group once again entered a hiatus. During this time, their primary activities took place on the online platform FC Live.
It was during this period that they also made their official Japanese debut, performing a Japanese version of their track "Jackpot" on the FC Live stages. On December 1, 2021, it was announced that the group would be transferred from Hunus Entertainment to IOK Company. On April 11, 2022, the english group's name was rebranded to ALICE.
