On August 12, 2024, IOK Company announced the establishment of its new sub-label Massive E&C. Within the same announcement, it was revealed the agency had signed exclusive contracts with former FIFTY FIFTY members Saena, Sio and Aran. Their activities as a new "global" idol group would begin at the second half of the year.
On October 15, it was revealed that the group would make their debut as a trio, under the name ablume. On December 19, it was reported that the group has the goal to debut in the first half of 2025. According to Massive E&C, ablume will begin their activities by releasing covers ahead of their debut to show a different charm of maturity and to connect with their fans.
On February 26, 2025, Massive E&C revealed that, upon the ablume's members request, The Givers CEO Ahn Sung Il, who was previously accused of attempting to poach the FIFTY FIFTY members back in 2023, will handle the producing of the group's music. Maeil Business Star Today reported that Ahn Sung Il and Massive E&C signed a one-year producing contract, with Ahn Sung Il being the executive producer of ablume’s debut album. As controversy arose, both the members and agency released additional statement claiming that some public reports carried misinformation and inaccuracy.
Ahn Sung Il was chosen after key facts were verified as he understands the members well and has helped them create meaningful work. Additionally, the agency will take legal action against those who spread misinformation. On March 27, it was announced that ablume would be releasing a documentary The Story of ablume.
The first episode was released on March 31 on their official YouTube channel. On April 25, 2025, it was announced that ablume would be making their debut on May 9, 2025 with their first digital single (labeled as a single album) "Echo". On May 28, the group released their first English remix single "Echoes of Echo" worldwide on all streaming platforms.
On June 18, 2025, it was revealed through an interview with Genius Korea that ablume is already preparing for their upcoming album. On June 20, Genius Korea apologized for the error as they have incorrectly stated that the group will be making a comeback with a full-length album. The group, however, is making a comeback with an EP.
The comeback has yet to materialize, presumably due to the still ongoing lawsuit. On April 2, 2026, it was reported that ablume will be making a comeback with a full-length album within the year.
