On November 10, 2022, Kimi posted photos on Instagram featuring the group with hashtags such as "#ONAIR" and "#comingsoon". On November 16, the group was officially introduced by the other members Sohyeon, Jihye, and Namkyung. It was also revealed that the group, under J-Star Entertainment, would be holding a Japan live tour, ONAIR Live Tour in Japan Start Up from November 23 to December 31 prior to their official debut in Korea.
On January 19, 2023, they revealed, through a Twitter post, they are preparing for their debut under SW Entertainment. In March 2023, it was revealed that they have changed their group name to st onair after the change of username across their SNS accounts. However, it was reverted back to onair shortly after.
On August 7, the group revealed a new member, Hyeum, and in the same time Jihye left the group due to unknown reasons. Hyeum is assumed to have left the group later that same month due to her presentation post being deleted. On October 23, Yubeen was revealed as a new member.
Sometime in January 2024, Kimi was removed from SW Entertainment's website indicating her departure from the group. A new profile photo featuring three members (Yubeen, Sohyeon, and Namkyung) was released on their website. On March 24, 2024, it was revealed through SW Entertainment's website that the group had rebranded as 3piece.
On July 25, SW Entertainment announced that 3piece would be releasing their debut single "Summer Feeling" on August 5. It was subsequently announced that the members would now be going by new stage names with Yubeen now being known as Viki, Sohyeon as Soo, and Namkyung as Iya. On September 20, SW Entertainment announced that 3piece would be releasing their second digital single "Light Up" on October 4.
On June 7, 2025, member Soo confirmed on a live stream that the 3piece members hadn't been together in a while and that the group had quietly disbanded.
