In 2017, he was a contestant on the survival show Produce 101 Season 2, representing HF Music Company. He was eliminated in the episode 8, and ranked number 40. On June 26, HF's then pre-debut group HNB released a special digital single titled "I'm Your Light", sung by Park Woo Dam, Woo Jin Young, Jung Won Cheol and Jo Yong Geun, as a thank you gift for fans who supported them during Produce 101.
On September 25, it was revealed that all of HF's trainees, including Woo Jin Young, would appear in YG's survival show, MIXNINE. He made it into the final group after ranking 1st, in which his group eventually won. However on May 2, 2018, Happyface Entertainment confirmed that the group's debut had been canceled due to being unable to reach an agreement on the new contract terms.
Following the debut cancelation, Woo Jin Young returned back to HF as a trainee. On June 14, 2018, he and Kim Hyun Soo released the special mini album Present as a gift to fans for supporting them on MIXNINE. Woo Jin Young participated writing the rap for the title track "Falling in Love".
He, along with Park Woo Dam, and Jung Yoo Jun took part in HNB's second special single "You Are So Beautiful" on December 2, 2018. On March 12, 2019, their agency announced the final lineup of HNB that would consist of five members: Woo Jin Young, Park Woo Dam, Kim Hyun Soo, Jung Yoo Jun, and Jo Yong Geun. Their official group name was chosen as D1CE and he debuted alongside the group on August 1, 2019 with their first mini album Wake Up : Roll the World and the title track "Wake Up".
On May 5, 2021, D1CE Entertainment announced that Woo Jin Young was working on his solo debut, set to release in the first half of the year. On June 1, his first mini album, [3-2=A], was announced, set to release on June 9. Woo Jin Young released his first digital single "Unbelievable" on April 4, 2022.
On July 1, his second mini album, Delicious, was announced, set to release on July 12. On September 17, 2023, Woo Jin Young teased his upcoming album, set to release on October 10. On October 5, he revealed the title of his upcoming EP, How Are You Doing?.
On December 9, he announced his second digital single "25°C", set to be released on December 14. On January 16, 2024, he announced his second EP, Don't Worry Be Happy, set to be released on February 7.
