Taeyong was cast into SM Entertainment in 2012, discovered by street scouts in front of his school. In December 2013, he was introduced as a member of the pre-debut trainee team SMROOKIES. In 2014, he participated with other fellow NCT members on the show Exo 90:2014, where they performed songs from the 90s.
As for the musical projects, he released a short song “Open The Door” and was featured in Red Velvet's single “Be Natural”. On April 8, 2016, he officially debuted as a member of NCT, in the unit NCT U, with the single "The 7th Sense". On July 10, 2016, he debuted as a member of the 2nd unit, NCT 127, with their EP NCT #127.
On February 26, 2018, he took part in the NCT U song, "Baby Don't Stop", alongside Ten. On March 14, 2018, NCT released their first full album as part of a large-scale project uniting all of its subgroups - NCT 2018 Empathy. On August 8, 2019, it was announced that he would be a member of the supergroup SuperM.
They released their self-titled mini-album on October 4, 2019. On November 18, 2019, they released the promotional single "Let's Go Everywhere". Taeyong opened his SoundCloud account in March 2021.
He proceeded to release many tracks, such as "Dark Clouds", "GTA1", "GTA2", "Blue", "Monroe" (featuring Baekhyun of Exo), "Rose" (featuring Seulgi of Red Velvet), and "Swimming Pool". In August of the same year, he served as a judge on the South Korean dance survival show, [https://en. wikipedia.
org/wiki/Street_Woman_Fighter Street Woman Fighter]. He later appeared as a guest judge in its spinoff, [https://en. wikipedia.
org/wiki/Street_Dance_Girls_Fighter Street Dance Girls Fighter]. Taeyong was featured on [https://en. wikipedia.
org/wiki/Suran_(singer) Suran]'s track "Diamond" in March. He collaborated with [https://en. wikipedia.
org/wiki/Wonstein Wonstein] to release his second single, "Love Theory", on April 14. He also joined the show Any Body Can Dance as the MC. On May 4, 2023, Sports Chosun reported that Taeyong will be making his solo debut in early June.
Hours later, SM Entertainment confirmed the reports. On May 15, it was announced that Taeyong will be making his solo debut on June 5 with his first mini album, Shalala. Through SM Entertainment's 3Q23 earning release, it was revealed that Taeyong will be releasing a mini album in early 2024.
On January 25, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyong would be making his first-ever solo comeback with his second mini album on February 26. On February 8, the album was revealed to be titled Tap. In February 2026, SM Entertainment released music line-up preview, where they included plans about Taeyong's first full-length album, which is set for release between April-June 2026.
On March 27, it was reported that Taeyong will release a digital single in April, followed by his first full-length album in May. On April 13, it was announced that Taeyong would release "Rock Solid" on April 17.
