On February 23, 2016, MJ debuted as a member of ASTRO with the release of their first mini album Spring Up. In 2020, MJ participated in the MBC reality show Favorite Entertainment. MJ was then able to become one of the five members who would debut in the project group.
On August 15, MJ then debuted as a member of Super Five with the digital single "Hello" under his full name Kim Myung Jun. On November 3, 2021, MJ debuted as a soloist with the digital single "Happy Virus". On December 18, 2024, Fantagio announced that MJ had renewed his contract with the agency.
On July 22, 2025, it was reported that ASTRO's third sub-unit ZOONIZINI would debut in August. The unit debuted with Dice on August 13.
