Gon was revealed as a member of ARGON on November 23, 2018. He made his debut with the group on March 11, 2019 with the single album "Master Key". The group presumably silently disbanded in late 2020, due to their prolonged inactivity and the lack of any further official announcements.
On February 15, 2023, he was revealed as a contestant on JTBC's Peak Time and took part in TEAM 24:00. His group advanced to the finals and finnished in third. On October 18, 2024, he was revealed as a contestant on JTBC's Project 7 but was unable to pass the survival round.
On March 18, 2025, the agency FUTORE announced that Kim Sung Joong would be making his solo debut with his first digital single, "DNDN (Day n Day n Night)", scheduled for release on April 8.
