On May 20, 2021, he was revealed as a contestant for SBS's audition show LOUD. During the tenth episode, which was aired on August 7, he was initially put on hold. However, in the next episode, it was revealed that Kang was one of the trainees in the JYP group.
Unfortunately, he was eliminated in the sixth round. On February 20, 2023, he was introduced as a contestant on MBC's boy group survival show Fantasy Boys. He was eliminated in the 10th episode, which aired on June 1, as he was one of the contestants with the least amount of votes.
On October 2, he was revealed as a member of of the upcoming Japanese project boy group MY BOYZ. On September 26, 2024, he was officially introduced as a contestant of Project 7. He ranked 10th place overall in the finale episode, thus being unable to debut with CLOSE YOUR EYES.
On May 21, 2025, he announced that he would debut with his first digital single titled "Serena-Day" on May 22.
