He debuted as a member of EXO and its sub-unit EXO-K on April 9, 2012 with the group's first mini album Mama. D. O made his acting debut in 2014 through the SBS drama It's Okay, That's Love.
On June 25, SM Entertainment confirmed that D. O would make his solo debut in late July. On July 1, SM Entertainment dropped a teaser for his first mini album, Empathy, set to release on July 26.
On September 2, 2022, D. O announced that he is recording his next album, which will be released after the completion of his drama by early 2023. On August 3, 2023, D.
O stated in an interview that he completed recording, music video, and jacket shooting for his upcoming album back in May. On September 1, 2023, SM Entertainment dropped a teaser for his second mini album, Expectation, set to release on September 18. "I Do" was pre-released on September 8.
On October 18, JTBC reported that D. O. would be leaving SM Entertainment as his contract with them is set to expire in early November.
He will be joining a new agency established by his longtime manager, with whom he has been working since his debut, to manage his solo activities. However, he will still continue his group activites as a member of EXO with SM. The company was revealed to be named Company Soosoo and founded by former manager and SM Management director Nam Kyung Soo.
On January 3, 2024, Osen reported that D. O. will be releasing a solo album in May.
A representative from Company Soosoo later confirmed that D. O is currently preparing for a new album aiming for a release in the first half of the year. On April 8, he released a teaser for his third mini album Blossom, scheduled for release on May 7.
On January 17, 2025, it was announced that D. O. will be releasing the digital single "Snowfall at Night" later that day.
On May 22, it was reported that D. O. is in final stage of preparation for his solo comeback scheduled for late June or early July.
On June 9, D. O. announced his first full-length album Bliss, scheduled for July 7.
On September 8, D. O. announced the digital single "Dumb", scheduled for September 16.
On October 13, S27M Entertainment announced that Na Yoon Kwon will be releasing a remake of "If It Was Me" from his 2004 debut album in collaboration with D. O.. The song will be coming out in early November.
On October 30, the release date for "If It Were Me" was revealed to be November 7. On November 4, Company Soosoo confirmed that their contract with D. O.
expired earlier in the month and they decided not to renew. The next day, Blitzway Entertainment announced that D. O.
has signed with them.
