On September 18, 2018, Bao debuted as a member of LUCENTE with the release of their debut mini album The Big Dipper. On April 20, 2021, Bao announced his contract with NOGA had expired on the 4th of the same month and he would therefor be leaving LUCENTE. He, however, was not planning to leave the music industry and announced he was instead planning to release music on his own.
On March 15, 2022, Bao was introduced as a member of the pre-debut group XEED. They debuted on December 1, 2022 with the mini album Dream Land. On March 22, 2024, Nature Space announced that the group would disband on April 8, 2024.
On January 22, 2025, Bao shared that his exclusive contract with Nature Space had concluded after three years. On April 20, the XEED members opened new SNS accounts under the name XD. On August 7, KOODS Entertainment announced they have signed an exclusive contract with Bao for his solo activities.
On October 1, XD announced its first sub-unit, consisting of members Bao and Jaemin.
