===2018–2019: Saturday Karaoke Star, Vocal Play 2=== In May 2018, SAya auditioned as a contestant for the Mnet survival show Saturday Karaoke Star under her birth name Kim Minseo (김민서). She advanced to the top 7 final round, but she ultimately lost the competition to the final winner, Park Sanhee on July 19. On October 19, 2019, she was introduced as one of the 100 contestants on the Channel A singing survival show Vocal Play 2 in the third episode.
She competed as a student from under her birth name. She passed the first round after performing "All About That Bass" by . On November 2, during the second round, she performed "Woo Ah" by Crush in the fifth episode in a battle against Lim Jisoo.
She was defeated, but she received one of the additional passes to the third round from the judges at the end of the episode. On November 16, she passed the third round after performing "Wi-fi" by Yoon Jong Shin & Zico in the seventh episode as part of the team Hotspot with Han Taewoo & Yang Dohu. On November 30, during the fourth round, she performed "Creep" by in the ninth episode in a battle against Kim Tae Hoon.
She was defeated, but she received one of the additional passes at the end of the round in the 10th episode on December 7. On December 14, during the fifth round, she performed "10 Minutes" by Lee Hyori in the 11th episode in a battle against Kim Young Heum. She was defeated and eliminated at the end of the episode.
She finished in the top 16. On December 28, she returned for a special group performance in the 13th and final episode of Vocal Play 2. She performed "Butterfly" by with other returning contestants including Yang Dohu, Ham Suhyun, Kim Jeong A, Nah Sanghyun, Han Taewoo, Lee Hyun Sung, Park Larin, Go Jeongjin, Kim Ye Ji, and OWNDO.
On October 29, 2020, SAya debuted as a member of SWAY, with the group's first digital single "Episode 1. ".
