In June 2019, J9 Entertainment's girl group Maywish's first generation of members all graduated, and so Moony was introduced as the first member of their second generation through a vocal cover video of "Feel Special" by TWICE on their YouTube channel. However, soon after, Maywish effectively disbanded after their SNS accounts were made private or deleted. The agency released no further news to confirm the fate of the group.
Throughout 2020 and 2021, Moony remained under J9 Entertainment after Maywish's disbandment and the agency continued to upload videos of her doing cover songs. She also turned to writing and composing songs which were uploaded to her SoundCloud. On March 7, 2022, it was announced that Moony will make her debut as a soloist.
Her first digital single "Shape of My Heart" was soon released on March 14, 2022.
