In 1995, she began her music career by entering competitions on national traditional arts and music including Dong-A Traditional Music Competition. Spell Entertainment revealed her to be a member of girl group Shamony under the stage name Sunny. The group deeply embraced Korean tradition by incorporating it into their music and identity together with modern elements.
In July 2000, Shamony debuted with the studio album Shamony. com. Shamony presumably disbanded the same year due to inactivity.
In late 2000, Sunny made her musical theatre debut as Princess Bari in National Theater's stage musical King Uru. She played the role until 2001. Sometime in 2002, the musical play 임당수 사랑가 premiered with her being a part of the cast.
On August 26, she debuted as a soloist with the album New Windows under her birth name Lee Sun Hee. It was originally scheduled to be released on July 25 but was moved a month later due to unknown reasons. The album is about looking at Korean culture in a new and fresh perspective through her window.
It was the first release of the Spell-Gugak Project. It is a Gugak about the comfort women in South Korea.
