In December 2011, she participated in the SBS survival program K-pop Star 1, where she finished as runner-up and was subsequently signed to YG Entertainment. She made her solo debut on October 29, 2012 with the digital single "1,2,3,4". On December 31, 2019, she announced her departure from YG Entertainment.
On July 23, 2020, she was introduced as a new artist of AOMG. On March 28, 2024, AOMG announced her departure from the agency after her contract expired. On September 23, newly established agency duover announced she had signed an exclusive contract with them.
On March 13, 2026, it was revealed that Lee Hi's contract with duover has ended on March 6. On March 28, Lee Hi and rapper Dok2 revealed they co-founded the music label 808 HI RECORDINGS and would be releasing the duet song "You & Me" later that day.
