In August 2012, she attended to Fantagio Music auditions for the pre-debut team i-Teen passing the first five rounds, thus becoming a trainee of the agency. Lee Chae Yeon first began her career as an idol after making an appearance as a contestant on the reality television competition show ' on November 24, 2013, along with her younger sister, Chaeryeong. Both sisters were eliminated from the competition show, but joined JYP Entertainment as trainees.
Having trained for a little over a year as an idol, on May 5, 2015, Lee Chae Yeon, along with her sister, joined JYP Entertainment's girl group reality competition television series, SIXTEEN, that created the nation-wide famous girl group, TWICE. However, she was eliminated in episode 3 and hence did not debut. Sometime after this, Lee Chae Yeon left JYP Entertainment and joined WM Entertainment.
Three years later, on May 11, 2018, she was revealed to be contestant on Produce 48 as a trainee representing WM Entertainment. On August 30, she finished the competition in 12th place, thus becoming a member of IZ*ONE. The group officially debuted on October 29, 2018 with the mini album Color*IZ and its title track, "La Vie En Rose".
On April 29, 2021, IZ*ONE disbanded after their special contract was concluded. Then, Chaeyeon returned to WM as a trainee. On August 24, 2021, Chaeyeon made her first public appearance since the conclusion of IZ*ONE's activities as a contestant on Mnet's dance survival show '.
She was eliminated with her dance crew 'WANT' in the 6th episode, placing 7th overall in the show. On September 7, 2022, it was rumored that Lee Chae Yeon would be making her solo debut with an album in the near future. On September 15, WM Entertainment confirmed the rumors and stated that Lee Chae Yeon will be making her solo debut sometime in October.
On September 21, it was revealed that Lee Chae Yeon will be making her solo debut on October 12 with her first mini album, Hush Rush. On January 11, coinciding her birthday, Lee Chae Yeon announced through her fan cafe, Instagram and Twitter accounts revealing that her solo fanclub name would officially be known as CHAERISH, which is a combination of her first name and "cherish" which take on three meanings. CHAERISH represents those who cherish Lee Chae Yeon, those most cherished by Lee Chae Yeon herself, and those she will cherish deep in her heart.
On March 22, it was announced that Lee Chae Yeon will be releasing her second mini album, Over The Moon, on April 12. On April 24, it was reported that Lee Chae Yeon would be partaking in the reality survival show Queendom Puzzle as a contestant. However, she decided that she would be dropped out of the show due to unrevealed personal reasons.
On August 17, Sports Chosun reported that Lee Chae Yeon will be releasing an album in September. Later in the day, WM Entertainment confirmed the reports. On August 22, it was announced that Lee Chae Yeon will be releasing her first single album, "The Move : Street", on September 6.
On June 18, it was announced that she will make a comeback on July 3 with her third mini album Showdown. On September 12, 2025, WM Entertainment announced that Lee Chae Yeon will be leaving the agency. On December 12, DOD announced that Lee Chae Yeon had signed on with the agency.
On April 6, 2026, DOD revealed that Lee Chae Yeon recently completed filming the music video for her new song and is currently in the final stage of preparations for her first comeback under the agency slated for later this month.
