Jung Hye Min first debuted as the leader and main vocalist of the four-member girl group AL on September 5, 2001. However, Jung Hye Min was kicked from AL in 2002 for breaking a rule in her contract. Four years later, Jung Hye Min, now known as simply Hyemin, debuted as one of the three original members of the girl group Gavy NJ on November 9, 2005 with their debut studio album "The Very First".

During her final year in Gavy NJ, she released a collaboration single with H-Eugene, titled "Love Series". She left the group sometime in late 2009 and was the first member to leave. For three years, Jung Hye Min was largely inactive and on a hiatus from appearing on Korean media following her departure from Gavy NJ.
