HyunA originally began her idol career by debuting as a member of the girl group Wonder Girls. The group's first mini-album, The Wonder Begins, was released on February 13, 2007. In July, her parents removed her from the group due to health concerns, particularly chronic gastroenteritis and fainting spells.
On May 14, 2009, she was revealed as the first member of Cube Entertainment's girl group 4minute. The group officially debuted on June 15 with their first digital single "Hot Issue". She made her solo debut on January 4, 2010 with her first single "Change".
On November 24, 2011, it was announced HyunA would be debuting in a new co-ed duo, Trouble Maker, alongside Jang Hyunseung. Their debut self-titled mini album was released on December 1. On June 13, 2016, Cube Entertainment announced 4minute would be disbanding after all of the members (excluding HyunA) had decided not to renew their contracts.
On May 1, 2017, she debuted as a member of the co-ed sub-unit Triple H, alongside PENTAGON members Hui and E'Dawn, with the mini album 199X. Following the news of HyunA and DAWN's relationship, on September 13, 2018, Cube Entertainment announced they would be terminating both artists' contracts, citing "lack of trust". Both artists' departures were confirmed on October 15 and November 14 respectively.
On January 27, 2019, PSY announced that HyunA, alongside DAWN, had signed on with his new agency P NATION. Her first release under the agency, "Flower Shower", was released on November 5. Due to her worsening health, HyunA went on an indefinite hiatus in late August 2020.
On January 8, 2021, PSY officially confirmed HyunA's return to be on the 28th via an Instagram post. On January 18, HyunA released an album concept video. Several concept photos, along with her seventh mini album's name, I'm Not Cool, were released on January 21.
On July 12, 2022, P NATION announced that HyunA would be returning on July 20 with the mini album Nabillera. On August 29, P NATION announced that both she and DAWN would be leaving the agency after deciding not to renew their contracts. On December 9, it was reported that HyunA met with MORE VISION to sign a contract with them, though nothing had been confirmed at that time.
On November 6, 2023, At Area confirmed that HyunA had signed with the agency. She released a performance video under the new agency later that day. On April 9, 2024, it was confirmed that HyunA recently finished recording for her upcoming comeback, scheduled for May.
On April 11, pre-order for her first EP Attitude opened, scheduled for release on May 2. On April 14, 2025, At Area teased HyunA's comeback. On April 16, it was announced that HyunA would release her fifth digital single "Mrs.
Nail", on April 30. On April 10, 2026, At Area released a statement announcing that HyunA had left the agency after three years and terminated her exclusive contract with them following extensive discussions about her future activities.
