Chanmi began her career in Kpop in 2004 when she became a trainee under SM Entertainment. She trained for several years and trained alongside several other trainees who eventually debuted in Girls' Generation, but was unable to debut with them due to the fact she was too young and only in seventh grade. On September 30, 2010, she made her debut as a member of the co-ed group Coed School with the digital single "Too Late".
In 2011, the group split in two to promote as sub-units, F-ve Dolls and SPEED. On February 11, 2011, she made her debut as a member of the girl group F-ve Dolls with the digital single "Lip Stain". In 2012, she left both Coed School and F-ve Dolls to pursue a solo career that never came to fruition.
She left Core Contents Media the same year and then signed with Pledis Entertainment as a trainee. In 2016, it was revealed that she was now a trainee under Duble Kick Entertainment as she participated in the reality survival show Produce 101, representing Duble Kick Entertainment. She was unfortunately eliminated in the 10th episode with her final rank in 26th place.
Following her elimination, it was rumored that Chanmi would be a contestant on Duble Kick's upcoming reality survival show, Finding Momoland. However, Duble Kick released a statement that revealed Chanmi would not participate in their own show, instead the company stated that they had plans for her to debut in a new vocal group. However, due to some unrevealed reasons, Chanmi eventually departed from Duble Kick Entertainment and joined Mostable Music.
She became a member of Mostable Music's pre-debut girl group HIGHCOLOR and was a featured singer along with fellow member New-A on MC Mong's song "And You", which was released in his seventh album, U. F. O.
In late 2017, Chanmi, along with fellow pre-debut members of HIGHCOLOR, appeared as a contestant on JTBC's reality survival show, MIXNINE, as a trainee representing Mostable Music. She was eventually eliminated from the competition with her final rank in 20th place. Due to some unknown reasons, HIGHCOLOR moved to Million Market and Chanmi was not listed as a trainee under this new agency, indicating she had left the debut lineup during the move.
On January 2, 2020, it was announced that Chanmi joined FirstOne Entertainment. On July 10, FirstOne revealed that she would be releasing her first solo digital single, "Highlight", on July 23. By December 2022, she departed from FirstOne Entertainment and joined A-CL Entertainment.
