Han Seung Yeon originally debuted as a child actress in the 1993 film Dead Ends. She would go on to appear in two more projects, Summer Showers and Star In My Heart, before leaving South Korea to study at Tenafly High School in New Jersey, United States. Seungyeon debuted as a member of KARA on March 29, 2007 with the group's first studio album The First Bloooooming.
Her first solo song "Guilty" was released on November 30, 2012 as part of the group's compilation album KARA Solo Collection. She held her solo debut stage on Music Core on December 15, 2012. On January 15, 2016, DSP Media announced Seungyeon, Gyuri and Hara's departure from KARA due to contract expiration.
Following her departure from DSP Media, it was announced on January 26, 2015 that Han Seung Yeon had signed on with J Wide Company. She made her Japanese solo debut on January 18, 2017 with her first mini album Uchu. In 2018, her contract with J,WIDE-Company expired and she decided not to renew.
On March 13, Inyeon Entertainment announced that she had signed on with the agency. On April 14, 2020, it was announced that Seung Yeon had signed an exclusive contract with YGX.
