On August 9, 2012, she debuted as a member of the girl group AOA with the single album "Angels' Story". On July 26, 2013, she debuted in AOA's first sub-unit, AOA Black, with the digital single "Moya". On June 30, 2017, it was announced that she had left the group due to health concerns.
On May 13, 2019, it was announced that she also had left FNC Entertainment. On August 7, it was reported by SPOTV News that she would be returning to the entertainment industry after 3 years, and that she has been meeting up with entertainment representatives to discuss signing with agencies in order to make her return as a solo artist. On the same day, KBS 2TV confirmed Choa's participation in To All the Guys Who Loved Me OST with the song "I'm Here", which would be released on August 11.
According to an entertainment industry official on August 21, 2020, Choa has moved to Great M Entertainment, a new agency founded by Kim Young Sun, who was a founding member and managing director of FNC Entertainment. JTBC News reported on March 31, 2022, that Choa will be making her solo debut with a single in April. Soon after, a representative from Great M Entertainment confirmed the report.
The next day, a teaser photo was posted on the company's Instagram which announced that Choa would be making her solo debut with the digital single "Yesterday" on April 9, 2022.
