Chaeyoung joined JYP Entertainment after passing an audition on June 6, 2012, at the age of 13. She then trained for nearly three years before participating in the survival show Sixteen. As a trainee, she appeared in the music videos for Got7's "Stop Stop It" and Miss A's "Only You" .
On May 5, 2015, she became a contestant on JYP's survival show, SIXTEEN. She finished the survival in 7th place, hence becoming a member of the girl group TWICE. They officially debuted on October 20, 2015 with their first mini album The Story Begins.
In October 2023, Chaeyoung collaborated with on a remix of their song "Pop Star". On June 10, 2025, JoyNews24 reported that Chaeyoung is set to make her solo debut in the second half of the year, particularly sometime in the fall. Hours later, JYP Entertainment confirmed the reports.
Chaeyoung released "Takedown" together with bandmates Jeongyeon and Jihyo, as part of the soundtrack for Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix's animated film '. On August 8, JYP Entertainement unveiled a teaser clip for Chaeyoung's solo debut full-length album, which will be released on September 12. On August 12, the online cover for Lil Fantasy Vol.
1 was released. On November 18, Chaeyoung was featured on a song "Wake Up" from Sokodomo's EP, SCORPIO000-^.
