Prior to their debut, all members of G. IAM had been trainees for over five years, including stints at other companies. Recognizing the potential of A-Tom, Vega, and Eunyul, who were in a dance team at the time, director Park Ae-hong decided to debut them with Kyulsil and U1, who were selected through auditions.
On March 2, 2011, G. IAM released their pre-debut digital single "Only You". On May 20, 2012, it was announced that new member Paulo, who previously debuted as a soloist in 2008, would be joining the group for their upcoming official debut.
On September 14, the group officially made their debut as six with the digital single "Brand New World". To commemorate the release, they held a showcase at Seongsu Art Hall in Seongdong-gu on the 16th. On December 6, they won the Rookie Singer Award at the 20th Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards.
On April 12, 2013, the group had their debut stage on Music Bank. On September 24, they released their third digital single "Be There". On December 17, it was announced that Eunyul had left the group due to personal reasons.
On January 14, 2014, Red Apple Entertainment announced that G. IAM would be split into two teams due to the company and the member's circumstances. The first half, consisting of A-Tom, U1, and Paul, would be releasing a new single titled "You're My Everything" as G.
IAM in Korea on the 21st. Meanwhile, the second half, consisting of Kyulsil, Vega and two new members, would be promoting in Japan. Despite plans for reorganization, their promotions in Japan ultimately got halted and they later resume promotions there as five with the existing members.
This was followed by the release of their fifth digital single "Propose". Since December, the group became inactive and presumably went on a hiatus. During this period, most of the members enlisted for their mandatory military service.
One of the members, A-Tom, presumably left the group and promoted as a soloist under the stage name A. Run, before also becoming inactive later that year. After three years of inactivity, G.
IAM returned on January 31, 2018 as a four-member group with Kyulsil, U1, Vega and new member Jun. With this, the group returned to promote in Japan, as well as releasing the digital single "Flower" on March 30. On December 2, the group announced their new lineup with new member Yuha, which also confirmed Kyulsil's departure.
On May 8, 2019, their agency announced that Yuha had fled from the group during his suspension period due to engaging in inappropriate relationships with multiple women. As a result, they planned to take legal action against him for breach of contract, defamation, and financial losses. On June 19, it was announced that U1 would be graduating from the group after his graduation concert on July 15.
With this, G. IAM continued to promote as a duo with the remaining two members, before presumably disbanding in 2020.
