On November 17, 2020, HwanRok made his debut as a member of withus with their digital single "Dogaebi: It". On December 29, 2022, HwanRok was introduced as a contestant of Boys Planet as an individual trainee, which will air on February 2, 2023. However, along with four other contestants (Tao Yuan, Yeom Tae Gyun, Jo Eun Woo and Jang Min Seo), HwanRok was listed as a discharged trainee, meaning that he left the show prior to its official airing.
On October 18, 2024, he was revealed as a contestant on JTBC's Project 7 but was unable to pass the survival round.
