On July 17, he was introduced as a member of the pre-debut training team SMROOKIES. On December 31, 2018, it was announced that he would be a member of NCT's Chinese sub-unit, WayV. The unit debuted on January 17, 2019, with the digital EP The Vision.

On October 12, he made his official debut under the sub-unit NCT U, as a part of the NCT's 2020 project NCT Resonance Pt. 1 with the song "Misfit".
