In late 2017, Havit participated in the JTBC reality show MIXNINE as a trainee from NH Media. Unfortunately, he was eliminated in the 10th episode, which was aired on December 31, with his final rank being 39th. On July 4, 2018, it was revealed that NH Media was planning to debut a nine-member boy group in September with Havit as one of the members.

On July 21, 2021, Interpark announced that they had established a subsidiary label, Interpark Music Plus, for their idol group production business. It was also revealed that the label is preparing to launch a new male idol group within the year. On August 9, Havit, along with fellow member Hankook, were revealed as the group's first trainees.
