The Rose debuted on August 3, 2017 with their first digital single "Sorry". On October 30, they dropped a video teaser for their second digital single "Like We Used To", which was released on November 1. On April 9, 2018, the group announced their first mini album, Void, which was released on April 16.
On September 18, the group announced their second mini album, Dawn, which was released on October 4. On July 6, the band announced their We Rose You Live World Tour, starting with a concert in Seoul on August 17. On August 6, 2019, the group announced their first single album, "Red", which was released on August 13.
On February 28, 2020, the band announced they have requested the termination of their contract with their agency, citing unreasonable schedules and problems with payments. J&Star Company issued a statement refuting their claims as they had not violated the exclusive contract and had provided payment information over the contract period. The agency explained that they may take legal steps and considering compensation.
On August 3, 2020, the members created their own SNS accounts for their band, not affiliated with J&Star Company. They released the single "Black Rose" on August 23. The song was later taken down due to the ongoing dispute.
On August 31, 2020, J&Star Company stated that the band’s request for contract termination has been denied by the courts. They added that an arbitration is currently underway and they wish "to resolve the matter in an amicable way". On June 29, 2021, member Woosung confirmed that everything has been sorted out with J&Star Company and that they are not under contract anymore.
The group plan to reunite once the mandatory military service of the other members is over. On December 28, 2021, J&Star Company announced the release of the digital single "Beauty and the Beast" on December 29, which is their last release under the agency. On June 15, 2022, through their Discord channel, The Rose announced the Heal project and their upcoming album.
Fans can send their own healing stories which will inspire a song for the album. On August 8, The Rose announced their Heal Together World Tour. It will starts in Chicago, Illinois on October 13.
On September 6, they announced their first full-length album, Heal, set to release on October 6. "Childhood" was pre-released on September 15. On July 1, 2023, The Rose hinted at their upcoming comeback with a countdown.
On July 7, they announced their second full-length album, Dual, set for release on September 22. "Back To Me / Alive" was pre-released on July 20, followed by "You're Beautiful" on August 25. On July 24, the group announced their Down to Dusk tour with the United States and Canada dates.
On March 29, 2024, The Rose announced their digital single "Lifeline (Reborn)", set to be released on April 6. On March 28, 2025, The Rose announced the album Wrld, set to be released on May 31, ahead of their Once Upon A Wrld Tour. On April 11, 2026, The Rose announced they would be pre-releasing "Blue Moon" on April 13, before making their comeback with the album Rose and going on a world tour.
Following the end of the Rosetopia tour, the group will be going on a hiatus to take a break and focus on themselves individually.
