On September 27, 2012, it was revealed that a new boy group called MR. MR was set to debut under TH E&M the following month, with the lineup of Ryu, Jin, Changjae, Doyeon, and Tey. The group officially debuted on October 4 with the digital single "Who's That Girl".
On January 17, 2013, it was announced that MR. MR would make their comeback on the 24th with their second digital single. However, they released the single "Highway" two days earlier, on January 21.
On July 1, a teaser was posted on the group's YouTube channel, confirming a comeback. Their first mini-album, Waiting For You, was released on July 5. On September 26, a new member, Jiwon, was announced as the sixth member.
He participated in events while Tey performed in a musical. However, on October 15, Jiwon entered a hiatus due to a herniated disc. TH E&M later stated they would add a new sixth member, indicating Jiwon's quiet departure.
On October 30, a new teaser was posted on MR. MR's YouTube channel, announcing a new sixth member, Hon, and a comeback. On November 8, they released their third digital single, "Do You Feel Me" with the new lineup.
In February, a transgender individual made online allegations against MR. MR's Hon, claiming a shared past involving a host bar and a private video. Hon's agency, Winning Insight M, strongly denied all claims as "groundless" and announced plans to sue for defamation.
Despite this defense, Hon chose to leave the group to protect its image. The agency confirmed his departure on the 24th, stating his contract would continue for solo activities. Hon explained that while he and Person A were once close friends, the post was a drunken mistake.
He stated the allegations were false but felt leaving was "the best thing for the members" to prevent further harm to MR. MR. Now as a five-member group once again, MR.
MR made their comeback on February 28 with their fourth digital single, "Mr. Mr". On April 25, the group released the pre-release single "It's You.
" Their scheduled official comeback for that day was postponed out of respect following the Sewol ferry sinking. Consequently, all activities for the song were limited to a previously announced showcase. On May 16, the group made their comeback with the digital single "Big Man" On January 15, 2015 member Tey debuted as a soloist with the digital single "Dangerous.
" On March 4, a notice was posted stating that Ryu would leave the group due to differences in musical views with the agency. Shortly afterward, however, Ryu revealed on Twitter that he had been assaulted and verbally abused by the agency's representative. The agency acknowledged the incident, apologized, and stated it would be resolved through legal means.
Two days later, on March 6, it was announced the group would expand activities to Japan. Two candidate members, Sanghyun and Jaemin, were added introduced as guest members. After the promotional period, fans were to vote on which candidate would permanently join.
Later in April, it was confirmed that both members would be added to the group, with a comeback scheduled for the 23rd. Now as a six-member group again, MR. MR made their comeback on April 23 with their second mini-album, Out.
After wrapping up promotions, the group announced plans to begin activities in Japan. On June 24, MR. MR officially debuted in Japan with their first single album, "I-One.
" On September 16, their second Japanese single album "Big Man / She Is So Beautiful", was released. On February 9, they released their first Japanese maxi single album, "Just 1 Light". On June 28, it was announced that member Jin would go on a temporary hiatus due to health conditions, though it was uncertain if he would return to the group.
On August 30, they released their second Japanese maxi single, "Rock This World". On November 29, they released their third Japanese maxi single, "Good To Be Bad". Following promotions for "Good To Be Bad" in late 2016, the group entered an unofficial hiatus.
