On August 13, Mnet announced that they would be debuting a new global boy band through a survival show titled STEAL HEART CLUB which would begin airing in October 2025. The show premiered on October 21. The live finale was broadcast on December 23, where the group's debuting name hrtz.
wav and lineup were revealed. The final lineup consisted of the top ranked among each position: drummer Hagiwa, bassist Dane, guitarist Keiten, vocalist Riaan, and keyboardist Youn Young Jun. On December 24, it was announced that Steal Heart Club was planned and produced by CJ ENM meanwhile Kakao Entertainment is responsible for distribution, album planning, production, and management of the band that is ultimately formed.
On March 11, 2026, hrtz. wav announced that they would make their debut with the mini album The First Wave on April 8, 2026.
