In 2019, he participated in Mnet's boy group survival show Produce X 101 representing Starship Entertainment. He finished in fourth place, thus becaming a member of X1. The group officially debuted on August 27, 2019 with the mini album, 비상 : Quantum Leap.

However, on January 6, 2020, the agencies representing the members announced the group has disbanded due to not being able to reach a unanimous agreement following the Produce 101 vote manipulation controversy. On February 13, Starship reveal that they would be debuting a 9-member boy group in the first half of the year with him and Minhee joining as members. On March 15, Starship opened the group's official SNS accounts and the name revealed to be CRAVITY.
