On July 3, 2019, it was announced that BUILD UP would be holding a showcase titled BUILD UP 1st Japan Live -Dream Land- on July 27, prior to their debut. On November 24, BUILD UP debuted with their first digital single "Think Of You". The members consisted of Ji Hyeok, Do Ram, and Jeong Gyu.
On December 26, the group officially introduced three new members: Yoobi, Sungwook, and Minjun. On February 15, 2020, BUILD UP released their second digital single "Dream Land". It is the first single with the three new members.
On April 7, a Makestar project was opened to fund their first mini album. Unfortunately, the project was then cancelled and refunds were issued for people who had previously donated. On November 16, Ji Hyeok revealed that he would enlist in the army quietly.
