He was street casted by SM before he accepted offer from BigHit casting director who found him when he get off the bus to Konkuk University. He got into music after became an trainee under BigHit. Although his main interest was acting as he studied film (Majoring in acting) and BigHit recruited him as an actor trainee, he became idol trainee after BigHit had plans to debut a new hip-hop idol group and no other plans for actors under the label.
He made his debut as a member of BTS on June 13, 2013 with the group's first single album "2 Cool 4 Skool". Along with fellow member V, Jin released "It's Definitely You" as part of the soundtrack of the South Korean drama ' in 2016. In 2018, Jin, along with fellow member Jung Kook, featured on an alternate version of "So Far Away", a track originally from fellow member Suga's mixtape Agust D.
On June 4, 2019, Jin released his first solo single, "Tonight", through SoundCloud. Jin released his second solo single, "Abyss", on December 3, 2020. In October 2021, Jin released "Yours" as part of the soundtrack of the South Korean drama Jirisan.
"Super Tuna", a special track for Jin's 29th birthday, was released on December 4. On October 19, 2022, it was announced that Jin will make his solo debut with the single album "The Astronaut" on October 28. On October 10, 2024, it was announced that Jin will be releasing 2024 Festa version of "Super Tuna" on streaming platforms the following day.
On October 14, BigHit Music announced that Jin would be releasing a new album in November. The following day, his first mini album, Happy, was revealed to be released on November 15. "I'll Be There" will be pre-released on October 25.
On November 25, BigHit Music announced that Jin would be releasing "Falling", featuring Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK member Taka, the next day. On April 14, 2025, it was announced that Jin is preparing to make a comeback with an album sometime in May. Later that same day, BigHit Music revealed the title of Jin's second mini album, Echo.
The next day, the release date was reveled to be on May 16. On May 20, BigHit Music announced that Jin would be releasing the remix album, Don't Say You Love Me (Remixes) later in the day.
