On January 3, 2022, KOZ announced that they were holding auditions for their new boy group on HYBE Label's YouTube channel. On June 15, 2022, KOZ launched a teen rapper audition called 'KOZ Teen Rapper Audition: U18 in the Zungle' in hopes of discovering members of their upcoming boy group. It was also revealed the group would be making their debut in 2023.
On August 4, 2022, Zico guested on SBS Power FM's Two O'Clock Escape Cultwo Show and revealed that the agency's upcoming boy group would not be hip-hop as they want to create a group that isn't limited to a specific genre. On February 28, 2023, media outlets reported that the group would be making their debut in May. KOZ Entertainment announced that the exact date is yet to be confirmed although they are expected to debut in the first half of the year.
On April 3, KOZ Entertainment started a 56-day countdown through their official website. On April 4, the agency confirmed that their new boy group would be preparing to debut on May 30, 2023. On April 17, the group's logo motion was released through the HYBE Labels YouTube channel, revealing that its name would be BOYNEXTDOOR.
On the same day, the group's social networks were opened. Hours later it was confirmed that the group would have six members. On May 1, KOZ Entertainment started the countdown for the group's debut.

On May 5, the names of the six members of the group were revealed through their social networks. Promo photo for [[Why.. ]] On July 13, KOZ Entertainment confirmed that BOYNEXTDOOR is preparing for their first-ever comeback, aiming for a September release.
On August 7, it was announced that they will be releasing their first EP titled Why.. on September 4. On November 1, 2023, the group's fandom name, "ONEDOOR", was revealed.

, which was released on April 15. Promo photo for [[And,]] On May 6, BOYNEXTDOOR announced their plans to make their Japanese debut with their first single, "And,", set for release on July 10. On June 19, it was announced via the group's official Japanese website that will be pre-releasing "Earth, Wind & Fire (Japanese Ver.
)" on the following day. On July 16, KOZ Entertainment released a statement which revealed that group member Leehan had recently developed skin inflammation, and would temporarily halt all group and individual activities to receive sufficient rest and treatment. Promo photo for [[19.
99]] On July 24, it was reported that BOYNEXTDOOR is currently in the final stages of the production process for their new album scheduled for September. On August 12, the group released an album trailer for their third EP 19. 99, which was released on September 9.
On August 14, it was announced that the group will be releasing a single from their third EP on September 2. A few days later the song's title, "Dangerous", was revealed. On October 31, 2024, BOYNEXTDOOR released their first English digital single "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" exclusively on Apple Music.
The song became available on all platforms starting February 3, 2025. During the second 'Knock On Vol. 1' tour show in Seoul, it was announced that they will be making their comeback in January 2025.
On December 16, 2024, they announced the digital single "If I Say, I Love You", scheduled for January 6, 2025. On February 10, 2025, BOYNEXTDOOR was invited for the s 85th anniversary celebration event at Warner Bros. Japan headquarters, and revealed that they would be releasing a special collaborative song later this year.
