On May 5, 2020, PocketDol revealed that they were planning to debut a new boy group in the fall and that the lineup would include Lee Hangyul and Nam Dohyon of H&D. On September 4, Dohyon was confirmed as the group's first member through his individual profile photos. Only two days later, Bit was revealed as the second member, followed by Doha on the 9th, Youngseo on the 11th, Muzin on the 14th, J-Min on the 16th, Yoojun on the 18th, Junseo on the 21st, and finally Hangyul on the 23rd.
On September 25, after revealing all of the members, they announced that their official name would be 'BAE173' and revealed their group logo. They made their official debut on November 19, 2020 with their first mini album "Intersection : Spark" and its title track "Crush On You". On November 27, they revealed that their originally CD only track "Every Little Thing Is You" would be publicly released and that it would serve as their first digital single.
It was released digitally two days later on November 29. On March 16, 2021, BAE173 announced that they would be having their first comeback with their second mini album Intersection : Trace. The album, along with its title track "Loved You", were released on April 8.
On November 12, BAE173, woo! ah! , and Ciipher released the collaboration digital single "Shining Bright", which was used as the theme song for the 2021 World K-Pop Concert (K-Culture Festival).
On February 19, 2022, PocketDol announced that BAE173 would be making a comeback with the aim to release their comeback album at the end of March. On March 17, BAE173 announced that they would release their third mini album Intersection : Blaze on March 30. On April 17, it was announced that BAE173's leadership position, which was originally held by Junseo, had been passed onto Hangyul.
On July 27, BAE173 dropped a series of comeback spoiler photos. On August 1, BAE173 that they would release their fourth mini album Odyssey : Dash on August 17. On October 8, group member Dohyon announced that he would temporarily halt all group and individual activities to focus on health recuperation.
On January 3, 2023, BAE173 was revealed as a contestant on JTBC's Peak Time through a silhouette teaser. The group won fifth place. On April 28, PocketDol Studio confirmed that they are in a legal dispute with Dohyon regarding the suspension of his exclusive contract.
On June 22, Dohyon announced that he has won his lawsuit to suspend his exclusive contract with PocketDol Studio, thus confirming his departure from BAE173 and reorganizing the group into an eight-member group. On February 28, 2024, PocketDol Studio confirmed that BAE173 will be making their first comeback since Peak Time in March. On March 4, they released a trailer video for their fifth mini album New Chapter: Luceat, which will be released on March 13.
On August 19, PocketDol Studio announced that BAE173 will be releasing the DVD special for the group's fans, it will contain the unreleased song "What", its music video and behind the scenes of music video. On August 27, the group shared the details of the DVD single "What", which is set for release on September 3. From October to December, J-Min, Muzin, Junseo and Youngseo participated in Project 7, while Hangyul, Yoojun, Doha and Bit took part in Starlight Boys.
J-Min ranked 3rd in Project 7, thus earning a spot in CLOSE YOUR EYES. Meanwhile, Hangyul ranked 6th in Starlight Boys, thus earning a spot in POLARIX. On January 17, 2025, PocketDol revealed that BAE173 will be collaborating with FANTASY BOYS for a release sometime in March or April.
Additionally, the group will be having a comeback in April or May. On February 3, PocketDol announced that J-Min will be halting his activities with BAE173 to focus on promoting with CLOSE YOUR EYES. On September 1, it was reported that BAE173 will be coming back with their first full-length album, later this year.
