The group made their debut as five members with the release of their first mini album Let's Fly, which was released on April 21, 2011. They then held their debut stage on Show! Music Core two days later.
Following their successful debut, B1A4 made their first-ever comeback with their second mini album It B1A4 on September 16, 2011. In 2012, the group made their comeback with their first full-length album, Ignition, on March 14. They then made a speedy comeback with its repackage edition Ignition (Special Edition) on May 24.
The songs "Baby I'm Sorry" and "Baby Good Night" were served as the albums' respective title tracks for their promotions. On April 23, 2012, WM Entertainment announced that the group had signed a contract with Pony Canyon to begin their activities in Japan by the end of June. They then made their formal Japanese debut with the single "Beautiful Target" on June 27.
On August 29, the group released their second Japanese single "Oyasumi Good Night" before their first Japanese full-length album 1 was announced to be released on October 24. Following the end of their promotional activites in Japan, B1A4 released their third mini album In The Wind on November 12, 2012, using the title track "Tried to Walk" as the main promotional track. In April 2013, it was announced that the group would be making their comeback with the release of their fourth mini album What's Happening on May 6.
The title track was used to promote the album. This was B1A4's only 2013 release in South Korea. On August 28, the group's third Japanese single "Ige Musun Iriya ~Nande?
Doushite? " was released. On January 13, 2014, they released their second full-length album Who Am I before they announced their second Japanese full-length 2, which was set for release on March 19.
Following the release of their second Japanese full-length, B1A4 announced their fifth mini album Solo Day, to be released on May 14. The album was then released on May 14 with the title track being used to promote the album. The Japanese version was later released as a single on September 10.
On January 21, 2015, the group released their fifth Japanese single "Shiroi Kiseki". The group made their comeback with their sixth mini album Sweet Girl on August 10, 2015. This was their only 2015 Korean comeback.
On March 16, 2016, the group released their third Japanese full-length 3. They later on made their only comeback in South Korea on November 28 with their third Korean full-length album, Good Timing. The group made two Japanese comebacks in 2017 with their eighth single "Follow Me" and their fourth Japanese full-length 4 on May 24 and June 14, respectively.
After 10 months of not making any comebacks in South Korea, B1A4 finally made their return with their seventh mini album Rollin on September 25, 2017, making this release their only 2017 comeback. The group released their 9th and 10th Japanese singles "Do You Remember" and "Aerumade" on February 7 and April 10, 2018, respectively. They then released their fifth Japanese full-length album 5 on June 27.
Coinciding their 7th debut anniversary on April 23, 2018, WM Entertainment revealed that the group members' exclusive contracts would be expiring soon and are in discussions for a renewal. Their contracts were originally set to expire in April, although they were extended until the end of June. On June 25, an updated statement was released announcing that the group's contract with WM would expire later in the month.
Discussions regarding contract renewal were still ongoing at the time. On June 30, members Jinyoung and Baro left WM Entertainment after deciding not to renew their contracts, while the other three members renewed their contracts with the agency. On November 16, a statement was released announcing that Jinyoung and Baro would not be promoting as B1A4 for the time being following their departure from WM Entertainment, and that the three remaining members would continue to promote as a trio.
