In 2020, Rainbow Company (later known as Rainbow E&M) created Future Idol, an idol development project for the purpose of debuting various project idol groups throughout 2021, 2022 and 2023 through its project, known as 'Future Idol Asia'. While pre-debut, Ascension was one of several teen groups that participated in the second Future Idol showcase. On February 17, Ascension released a teaser video revealing their debut date to be on February 24, 2023, with the single "Like A Star".
