On November 3, 2011, the group made their debut under Excellent Entertainment as Taken with the mini album Only You and the title track "Young Boy". The lineup consisted of six members: Daon, Sungwon, Yoojun, Taehyuk, Seungyul and Geonwoo. With this, they were set to have their debut stage on Music Bank on the 18th.
However, this ended up getting cancelled as the group felt they needed more practice in order to have a decent debut. On December 12, they held a joint showcase in Japan with singer The One. In early 2012, Taken saw the departure of four members: - On February 13, it was announced that Yoojun had left the group due to undisclosed reasons.
- On March 7, Taehyuk posted a tweet saying "Goodbye", before deleting most of his tweets and announcing in his bio that he was no longer a member of Taken. However, he later returned to the group the following month. - On April 12, Geonwoo announced his departure from the group to focus on his studies.
The same day, Seungyul also revealed that he had left the group. On July 25, the group dropped their first digital single "You're the Only One", which was composed by MBLAQ's G. O, as a pre-release.
In August, it was reported that the group were set to make their debut the following month with a mini album. However, the debut ended up getting delayed due to Taehyuk leaving for the second time and getting replaced by Woobin. On November 6, A-PRINCE officially made their debut with the mini album Hello.
On December 26, the group held their first solo concert in Japan, titled A-PRINCE Show - A Day Late Christmas Present. On June 25, 2013, they released their second mini album Mambo, with a track of the same name serving as the title track. On June 27, they were appointed as the tourism ambassador of .
With this, they released the promotional single "Romantic Gangwon" on October 21. On January 15, 2014, they made their first comeback in five months with the digital single "Yes or No". On the 26th of the same month, they released the second promotional single for Gangwon Province on their fancafe, titled "Love Snow".
On March 28, the group returned with the single album "Kiss Scene". On September 10, 2015, DreamT Entertainment announced that they would be debuting a new boy group named MAP6 in November. The following day, the group made their first public appearance at a Girl's Day concert in Japan and many fans recognized that 4/5 members are from A-PRINCE.
On November 9, it was officially confirmed that all members of A-PRINCE, except for Sungwon, who was enlisting at the time, had transferred to DreamT Entertainment, went through 15 months of intense training and were set to re-debut as members of MAP6. With this, A-PRINCE officially disbanded.
